The list of new (redesigned) facilities includes a photo gallery (deck 5), library (deck 7), card room (deck 7) and the new SplashGolf (kids mini-golf course). The SplashGolf is a retrofit to the ship's existing splash pad (part of the Aqua Park area). It is located under the waterslides on pool deck 15 and combines 2 water fun attractions (splash pad and miniature golf) into one interactive water play facility for toddlers and small kids. I stayed in a balcony and they have these weird couches in them that are extremely stained and make me question if I even want to sit on them. The fixtures were just cheaply done and you could see the stuff falling apart. Granted we didn’t spend a lot of time in our room because of this, but was disappointed. I have been on a couple of cruises and thought I would try out Norwegian for the first time. Sailing on the Epic made me question whether I want to sail with this line ever again.
Decks and Cabins
Again, however, on a recent cruise, there were more misses than normal, especially in specialty dining. I believe this is temporary due to all of the supply chain issues. After a planned Transatlantic in December 2022 on the Epic, I’ll confirm if the dining has improved. While we don’t have children or travel with other couples who do, we’ve met plenty of families that love the activities on board the Epic. The Entourage Club is a great gathering space for teens / tweens with video games, consoles, etc. There are also plenty of kid-friendly activities outside of the Entourage like the water slides and water park.
Of course you'll have access to all kinds of great amenities, like 24-hour room service and much more. Extensive relaxing and rejuvenating treatments are offered at the renowned Mandara Spa, which boasts a dry float suite, relaxation lounge, thermal spa suites and state-of-the-art fitness center. Amazing music is played at the Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club. Hop from a nightclub to a blues club and take in an amazing acrobatic spectacular show and all in one night! Shoppers can head to the duty-free Tradewinds boutiques.
It also has a decent-sized bar to sit at where the bartenders will make you a martini of choice. I find that the skill level of the bartenders is lacking with good martinis, unfortunately. The main dining restaurants on the Epic with a menu that changes regularly as well as a daily / nightly fixed menu for those who don’t appreciate change.
Unfortunately, NCL made the choice to chop off a significant portion of the bar and make it a Starbucks. Where the Atrium Bar used to be a gathering point for social activity and pre-dinner meetups, it’s now just an afterthought and feels like it should be in the lobby of a cheap hotel. I can’t say that I’ve stopped even once for a drink there since this change happened. From casual buffets to exquisite specialty restaurants, learn everything there is to know about dining on board. Reminiscent of an upscale private New York City supper club, the Manhattan Room offers a fabulous dining experience in addition to stunning views from two-story floor-to-ceiling windows. Spa cabins include admission to Mandara spa and use of the thermal suite area. Solo passengers/cruisers have never been a priority on most cruise ships. Expensive solo and single supplements are often normal on cruises, however, Norweigian changed that with their solo insider cabins of which more than 100 were introduced on the Epic. The choice to cater to passengers who traveled alone or with friends not wanting to share a cabin was a huge hit for NCL.
